Disable the zimlet "com_zimbra_date" in the Admin-Console of Zimbra.

I think this is the "optional" Setting.

Find it right beside participant.

Most Calendar Systems use this to mark an invitation as "optional". Like "for information only".

You cannot see this invitation in free and busy times.
