I guess what you guys are experiencing is a bug in ZCS 8.7.3 and onwards fixed in ZCS 8.8.5 and later

Firstly I would strongly suggest you to upgrade to 8.8.6 as 8.8.3 is not a GA release . What do you see in the logs when you try sending the emails?

Try -s instead of -i to see the current value and -e to change it

Do you get any error? what url are you using to access admin console?

check a script called zmmsgtrace in /opt/zimbra/libexec

try some awk magic with that and you will get your result
