You can do it via IMAP, but not via the web client. If you'd like to see this feature added to the web client, please search bugzilla and vote for it (or file a new enhancement request if there isn't an existing one)!

No, that's almost certainly the problem. (We weren't sure if JavaMail supported that switch.) If this is really affecting you and you need it in 5.0.10, please open a support case on Bug 30432 – some characters displayed as boxes in chinese email bodies.

Try adding -Dsun.nio.cs.map=GBK/GB2312 to the java command line and see if that fixes things. Let us know if it works!

Fixed in 5.5. There are rumors that you can add -Dsun.nio.cs.map=GBK/GB2312 onto the java command line to do this mapping. Please try it and let us know if it works!

Never seen this before and can't repro. My first guess is that your mailing list provider may be incorrectly rewriting the In-Reply-To header. Look at mail sent to the list by another user around the same time and see if there's similar rewriting going on.
