how to resolve dns
The first thing to mention is that the version of Ubuntu you're using is not, currently, a supported platform you may have problems installing Zimbra on it. The second is that these questions/problems have been discussed ad nauseam in the forums, you will also need a correct and valid /etc/hosts file, read the Quick Start Installation Guide for the format and/or search the forums for further details on what's necessary.

how to resolve dns
Here's the actual setup of my network..
My Server PC is behind a Netgear router and our LAN uses the 10.0.0.0 block of private I.P. addresses.
I'm no networking guru but I thought you may need the below information...
I don't have a TLD assigned to my router but a sub domain called sub.example.com ... I've put a CNAME record with my domain registrar to point to another domain provided by dyndns.org since my router has a dynamically assigned IP address... from the router we use port forwarding to point to our server in case of HTTP requests .... Everything works fine till here.. [lamp stack]
After advice on the forums and reading some documentation I reinstalled debian and
made appropriate changes to the etc/hosts file so that the installation proceeds The installation went on fine till it found that no MX record was configured..
DNS ERROR - none of the MX records for delsoft.delian.co.in
resolve to this host
Later I realized the split dns article that was supllied to me in one of the posts. I downloaded bind9 server but wasn't able to configure it... Made some search got this link...
Configuring bind9 in a chroot, lenny version titled Configuring bind9 in a chroot
My questions
Should I configure bind9 as per the above article and then go ahead with the split dns article in zimbra wiki?
Is it ok to not have a actual TLD but a subdomain and what other ports have I to forward to my server..
There was an error related to LDAP as well further down in the installation. and it asked me to run a particular .pl file to finish with the installation.. I guess I'm gonna do this from start all over...
lastly if the system is not touched for a while then a black screen appears and on mouse movement I can't get back to desktop...
is it necessary to install zimbra memcached and zimbra proxy in my case..

how to resolve dns
Hi Valerys,
Check the domain name during the installation. Try changing it (when it asks) to "baltechnos.com" instead of "vmmail.baltechnos.com". That should sort out your DNS issue, as it has an MX record according to:
"baltechnos.com. 86400 IN MX 20 mail.baltechnos.com."
If you use "vmmail.baltechnos.com" as the domain name, it will look for an MX record for "vmmail.baltechnos.com" domain.
eg. "vmmail.baltechnos.com. 86400 IN MX 10 mail.vmmail.baltechnos.com."
Hope this helps. All the best.
