LHammonds,
I registered specifically to say thank you for your guide. This guide has been immensely helpful for a neophyte Linux user! I look forward to your 12.04 LTS guide.

Thanks so much for the thread.
Suggestion: How about a 7.2.x on Ubuntu 10.04 to 8.0 on Unbuntu 12.04 migration report / guide?

You're welcome. Glad it was helpful. I'm relatively new to this stuff myself.

In a prior thread, I had a section on my upgrade experience...it was mainly to point out what went wrong/right rather than trying to replace the excellent upgrade guide they already had.
I may or may not be doing an upgrade this time round though. If I did, it would be purely for the sake of just trying it out. We didn't go live before our major overhaul of our core systems that recently took place...well, it was too close and the higher-ups felt it would be better to not introduce more change than what was absolutely necessary. Now that we are in the "clean up" phase of that project and now that 8.0 has released, it is time once again to kick up this project and get 'er done. Just not sure if I'm going to have time testing the upgrade process but you'll know if I do.

Good day to LH and all the geeks,
Me as excited as you are about the release of ZCS8.
Though, its not documented (or I may have missed it due to my 6-eyes,i.e, myopia & hyper-metropia) this is POA for the upgrade:
1. Upgrade ZCS 714 or ZCS 720 to ZCS 8.0

2. Then upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Will try to post my effort.
Suggestions are solicited.

Really good guide :)
just few questions.
1) Do i really need these?
Server domain alias (Windows): work

Server fully-qualified windows domain: work.mydomain.com
I don't have any windows in my environment. All of us are using mac lion and 1 mountain lion. There's no Active Directory or Domain controller here, as we have small group of people.
What would be the best replacement?
2) For external DNS IP, how do I get one?
I have a server room at office with all internal IP. Just wonder how to get external DNS IP? Are they the same with external static IP given by my ISP?
3) How about security? Do I need to put in place any spam filter hardware appliance or security appliance?
What kind of firewall are you using? Will that be sufficient for hackers?
I have a basic firewall running on Zentyal 3.0 that protects my office. Will that be sufficient? Or i need an expensive firewall that specialise for email?
Just want to prevent hackers hacking my emails :) hopefully :P
4) When will you release the latest guide on Zimbra 8 OSE and 12.04? Can't wait for this one :)
Any help? Thanks.

The "work" domain is specific to my Active Directory network. I cannot give any advice on other platforms I do not use or have experience with. Sorry.
Anyone with Internet access gets at least 2 DNS server provided by your ISP. If you do not see them already configured on your PCs, call your ISP and ask about their IP numbers.
Security is always a bit tricky. It is always a balancing act of budget/time/risk. There are always better ways of reducing security risks but you have to stay within your budget and time/skill to implement and support the security mechanisms. We have a hardware firewall and our employees get educated on safe practices since the best security in the world can be rendered useless if misused and mismanaged. Stopping automated attacks is one thing, stopping your employees from doing stupid stuff is a whole 'nother game entirely. I also have an identical server gets automated OS updates and lets me know I need to update the production server.
As for the new thread, I will post an update with a link to it on this thread when it is done. I'm still working on it at the moment but I don't get a lot of time to work on this (currently building an automated interface between hospitals to share data more efficiently than paper). Getting to play with MySQL, PHP and vsftpd.
