High Availability?

Post by cthart »

Hi,

We're currently running Zimbra on a single physical which we'd like to virtualise, and we're wondering how to plan/install for high availability?

I've looked through the multi-server install guide, but it seems to be aimed at using multiple servers for scalability rather than availability.

Any thoughts? Can we use backups and replay them on a standby server?

I am usually use DRBD and Heartbeat for Zimbra HA. DRBD used for data replication (RAID 1 from network) and Heartbeat used for fail over.
I've documented how to install Zimbra HA on my blog here ;) : https://imanudin.net/2015/03/24/how-to- ... bility-ha/

There was a fantastic POC (proof of concept) talk at Zimbra COMMIT last week in NYC by Cascadeo.

All the talks are covered here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=61452#p275133

This is the specific doc: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zli6ce0ppuke ... Reimer.pdf

While the PDF names some paid softwares there are Open Source equivalents available. Really worth your time to review the slide deck and get some ideas for creating a HA environment in a current Zimbra version.

Cheers!
