Update from Release 8.6.0 (UBUNTU12.64)

Hello.
I have to update Zimbra from version (Release 8.6.0.GA.1153.UBUNTU12.64 UBUNTU12_64 NETWORK edition.
) to last.
I believe that it will be necessary to update the operating system as well.
How do you recommend to proceed?
Is it possible to update directly to the latest version or do I have to follow intermediate steps?
Update first the operating system?
