Impossible to update to 8.8.X from 8.7.11 (Ubuntu 16.04)

Postby lisek » Wed Feb 07, 2018 10:08 am

Hi.

I'm trying to update my zimbra server (open source)

Everytime I end UP with the same problem, and didn't find anything about anyone facing the same.

I've got Zimbra from ages, and Updated everytime. Currenty It's running 8.7.6 but I can upgrade it to 8.7.11 without any problems.

I'm trying to Update to 8.8.5 or 8.8.6 - both failed.

Upgrade process runs smoothly without any problems.
The problem is that after this update nginx want start and pops out:

Code: Select all

zmproxyctl start
Starting proxy...nginx: [emerg] unknown directive "mail_login_ip_imap_max" in /opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/includes/nginx.conf.mail:142
failed.

If I comment out this line in template file for this config file, it will popup another, and another, and another from different lines. Also from other nginx config files.

Do someone know what is going on and how to solve it?

Nothing there jumps out at me. Grasping at straws here:
Could you do:

Code: Select all

sudo find /opt/zimbra -name nginx
which nginx

With Zimbra down (zmcontrol stop) do:

Code: Select all

sudo grep -r -l mail_login_ip_imap_max /opt/zimbra/

For me, the output is:

Code: Select all

/opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.mail.template
/opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/includes/nginx.conf.mail
/opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
/opt/zimbra/.bash_history

Re: Impossible to update to 8.8.X from 8.7.11 (Ubuntu 16.04)

Postby lisek » Wed Feb 14, 2018 12:04 pm

So. The First one is:

Code: Select all

find /opt/zimbra -name nginx
/opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
/opt/zimbra/conf/nginx
/opt/zimbra/data/nginx
/opt/zimbra/data/tmp/nginx

and for the second one:
Mine output is:

Code: Select all

/opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.mail.template
/opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/includes/nginx.conf.mail
/opt/zimbra/log/zmsetup.20180209-094359.log
/opt/zimbra/log/nginx.log

In log files there is nothing more then the line I've posted on first post.
In upgrade log I can see that apt was not upgrading zimbra-components, only zimbra-proxy - last was up to date, and not upgraded - maybe I've should force them to install somehow.

Here are sums for template files, could you check yours please?

Code: Select all

f7f63e1c9c82e15ef8f379179b12488a  /opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.mail.template
a553bcc254e2c4958e8256b0ee5eb393  /opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/includes/nginx.conf.mail

And this file was not found by grep like in your config, but is where it should be:

Code: Select all

/opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx -v
nginx version: nginx/1.7.1

md5sum /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
180de2269c7ec1e16273e77c6411d1d0  /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx

and last one - executed as zimbra user:

Code: Select all

which nginx
/opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx

Why not just use the Zextras backup to upgrade to a new server?

Well. This is some kind of thing I could try. Didn't think of this because zextras backup is commercial tool, I didn't think about it, but Trial license should be enough for me to make it possible. Will try If other solutions fail.

I don't have anything special in my config, so - I'm pretty sure, there is something wrong with install package or online repos. That's why I'm talking here, hoping that will find solution and someone will maybe fix this in future releases.

Hi all!

I´m facing the same issue here. I´m previosly upgrading from 8.7.9 to 8.8.8.

All proxy ports is down.

[zimbra@zimbra ~]$ zmproxyctl start
Starting proxy...nginx: [emerg] unknown directive "mail_login_ip_imap_max" in /opt/zimbra/conf/nginx/includes/nginx.conf.mail:142
failed.

Any update?

Hi,

I've a similar problem and i've been follow up this is issue to zimbra support. It looks like zimbra nginx file was corrupt and that is the reason proxy service was not starting.

If you check and compare the md5sum of nginx binary file with our test setup and found md5sum was different.

To fix this issue we have moved nginx binary and re-installed zimbra-nginx package then restarted proxy service.

These are the steps which we have followed to fix the issue.

Code: Select all

root@mail:~#
root@mail:~# md5sum /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
6abb9b1776793e786fd011dd193ff6aa  /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
root@mail:~#
root@mail:~# mv /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx_OLD
root@mail:~#
root@mail:~# apt-get install --reinstall zimbra-nginx
root@mail:~# md5sum /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
ac7e9f1747b651a91421b01fd07e4f5c  /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
root@mail:~#
root@mail:~# su - zimbra
zimbra@mail:~$
zimbra@mail:~$ zmproxyctl restart
Stopping proxy...done.
Starting proxy...done.
