Network Edition upgrade results: One minor issue, one new Support Case...

Minor Issue:
No errors in the logs, but on checking the Admin Console https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=108905 impacted me. The workaround there, to undeploy and redeploy the Zextras zimlets, worked OK.

Support Case Issue:
Chat is "broken" (or maybe the documentation isn't clear to me)...

The Zimbra Talk v2 Admin Guide (https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Talk_V2_Admin_Guide) says "No installation required (the Zimbra Talk core is included in Zimbra Network Edition starting from version 8.8.8)". But, the Chat service fails to start after the upgrade claiming something else is on ports 5222, 5223 and 5269. There is, but running "zmmailboxdctl stop" frees those ports. Further down in the Talk v2 Admin Guide, it says to install the Talk zimlet I need to run apt-get install zimbra-talk and that installing the Zimlet will automatically remove any Zimbra Chat components from the server, as Zimbra Talk includes all the Zimbra Chat features. But wait; at the top it said Talk is installed automatically with 8.8.8? And if I run zmzimletctl listZimlets I see the Chat zimlet, not the Talk zimlet

Not clear what to do so waiting on Support and will update this post when I hear back.

Hope that helps,
Mark

I updated two test systems from 8.8.7 to 8.8.8 and didn't see any issues yet.

I do have some issues with Zimbra Talk though: It simply doesn't work/doesn't show me the Zimlet. I followed all steps in the admin guide, using a trial license, but neither a Talk tab nor the chat feature appears.

According to the release notes under Fixed Issues:
77129 Mails should also display time not just date
Perhaps I am missing something or I need to alter something ... for me still no time displayed for email more than one day old they still just show the date ?

** Update ** Many Thanks.
For those who like me took a while to find it :
Preferences , mail, Displaying Messages, Always display received time in email list

Also after upgrade from a version 8.6.0 to version 8.8.8:

Zimbra Ajax Webclient (compose email) I note its missing Paste as Text Button

I note HTML version ( we don’t use it for obvious lack lustre reasons ) paste as text button remains and functions as expected..

Looking back I think* this button might have disappeared around 8.7.X but I don’t really know. All I know is this button is extremely useful.

Ztalk needs a separate/different license . Maybe that is the issue there with Ztalk not working properly. If you guys can DM me your case numbers open with Z support , I can look into them directly.

After I upgraded to v8.8.8 the Zimbra repo (yum repo) got broken

Code: Select all

# yum upgrade
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * base: mirror.ufscar.br
 * extras: mirror.ufscar.br
 * updates: mirror.ufscar.br
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package zimbra-chat.x86_64 0:1.0.13.1521626727-2.r7 will be obsoleted
---> Package zimbra-talk.x86_64 0:1.0.2.1521642559-1.r7 will be obsoleting
--> Processing Dependency: zimbra-network-modules-ng >= 1.0.13 for package: zimbra-talk-1.0.2.1521642559-1.r7.x86_64
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: zimbra-talk-1.0.2.1521642559-1.r7.x86_64 (zimbra-888-patch)
           Requires: zimbra-network-modules-ng >= 1.0.13
 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I opened Case 00710401 last week on this. FWIW, this case is no longer in my list of open nor closed cases, so I opened another case to ask the status.

Thanks for helping!

All the best,
Mark

Workaround:
Can you install zimbra-talk and check. zimbra-talk removes zimbra-chat package, undeploys chat zimlets, installs zimbra-talk package and deploys talk zimlets. We have observed that once zimbra-talk is installed and mailbox restarted, the port conflict issue gets resolved.

To install Zimbra-Talk:
Ubuntu:
As root, apt-get install zimbra-talk
su - zimbra
zmmailboxdctl restart

RHEL:
As root, yum install zimbra-talk
su - zimbra
zmmailboxdctl restart

If Talk license is not available, Talk zimlet would behave like Chat and Talk features are not made available to end user.
This has been identified as a bug and fix should be available in the upcoming release.

Here is the bug https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=108906

I tested with a (new) trial license which has some ZTalk accounts licensed.

I don't really why but suddenly ZTalk worked. My guess is that it isn't compatible to the "Show Mailbox" feature from the Admin UI. At least that is where nothing was seen from the ZTalk Zimlet but once I logged in properly with username and password, it worked. Dunno, works now, can test it.
