Is it safe to upgrade from the Zimbra APT repository?

Post by cthart »

Hi,

We're running Zimbra "Release 8.8.7.GA.1964.UBUNTU16.64 UBUNTU16_64 FOSS edition". The installer added an APT repostitory to the list of sources. Now when I run apt list --upgradable, I see a list of packages that need upgrading:

Code: Select all

zimbra-clamav/unknown 0.99.4-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04 amd64 [upgradable from: 0.99.2-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04]
zimbra-clamav-lib/unknown 0.99.4-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04 amd64 [upgradable from: 0.99.2-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04]
zimbra-core-components/unknown 1.0.4-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04 all [upgradable from: 1.0.3-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04]
zimbra-mta-components/unknown 1.0.5-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04 all [upgradable from: 1.0.4-1zimbra8.7b1.16.04]
zimbra-openjdk/unknown 1.8.0u172b01-1zimbra8.7b5.16.04 amd64 [upgradable from: 1.8.0u144b01-1zimbra8.7b4.16.04]
Is it safe to upgrade these packages? Or do I need to perform a full upgrade some other way?

Thanks,

Colin

You haven't given any details of your ZCS version, you should always post the full output of the following command:

Code: Select all

zmcontrol -v
I'd also suggest you read the applicable Release Notes in the wiki for your ZCS version.

Post edited to include version information.

The release matrix at https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_Releases says "No released patches". So what are these upgrades that APT is wanting to install?

Thanks,

The brief answer from is I don't know. They look like updates to me as they're the most recent version of those components on my systems (which is CentOS7 ZCS 8.8.9) which is on the most recent ZCS patch level for my version.

Is there any reason you're not on the most recent ZCS release? In any case, you can update your system if you choose with the usual proviso of take a backup first. :)
