Virtual Address maped to external mail addresss

Post by AndresTarallo »

Hi !!!!!
I have a fresh install of Zimbra 8.0.7. We are using it for a a new domain, works flawlessly. I received a request that I'm not sure how to fulfil in zimbra.
I need to create virtual address, mapped to external accounts. I've tryed to create aliases say: user_account@zimbra_hosted.com mapped to user@external_mail.com . I've done this with Postfix virtual user table.
Thanks for your help.

Much easier to do this in Zimbra with the distribution lists functionality.
for example:

zmprov cdl user@your-zimbra-domain

zmprov adlm user@your-zimbra-domain user@external-address

Hi Paul !!!!
Thanks for your suggestion. I will follow it, since I need to have work done. However I'll be investigating a cleaner solution, since this is not the intended use of distribution lists.

There's nothing wrong with using a one-to-one mapping of distribution lists. Its a very clean solution - much cleaner than editing postfix configs in my opinion. It also keeps all your accounts within Zimbra (forwarding accounts or otherwise). We've done this for retired faculty/staff (who don't keep their local Zimbra account but can get a forwarding address) for years and its worked very well for us.
