Document preview in briefcase doesn't work. 8.5

Post by Salva_savia »

I have upgraded zimbra 8.0.7 to 8.5 open source editition. All ok, problem is that briefcase document preview doesn't work. I always get message "We cannot generate the preview of the file. Click here to download it."

Hi Salva,

The Preview feature is only for Network Edition version. You might be able to preview, .txt files, but not PDF, even Word, Excel, etc.

Document preview in briefcase doesn't work. 8.5

Hello Jorge,

I understand that this feature is reserved for the Network Edition. But why does Zimbra OSS then try to generate a preview anyway?
In previous versions (8.0.x), Briefcase would simply open the PDF file, so that I could use the PDF renderer in Firefox to view the document directly. With 8.5.0, I now get the message "We cannot generate the preview of the file. Click here to download it." instead of the document.
Yes, it only works for PDF and not for Word, Excel etc. However, most documents are PDFs, so it was a nice feature. Is there any way to return to the old behavior, i.e., skip the Zimbra preview for this file type and open it directly?
Thanks for your answer.

Best regards

Well, it works, but uses the insecure http connection instead of https. So your browser blocks it.
Try to run Chrome, click to any file in your Briefcase, and look for a small icon in the right of the address bar of the Chrome. There should be an icon with a shield X.
Click it and allow to load Java scripts from the unidentified sources. Then the preview of txt, jpg, pdf will work.
But keep in mind that browser uses INSECURE connection to load your docs for preview.
