High cpu load for java process after upgrade to 8.8.6
HI,
After upgrade from 8.6.0 to Zimbra 8.8.6_GA_1906(Community), there were problems with CPU.
My system:
VM Centos 6 x64 on VMWare esxi 5.5
4vCPU and 16gB RAM
2 domains, and 50 mailboxes
Problem:
top - 19:00:40 up 18:27, 1 user, load average: 0.25, 0.17, 0.11
Tasks: 202 total, 1 running, 201 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 38.8%us, 0.2%sy, 0.0%ni, 81.0%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 16334684k total, 7037212k used, 9297472k free, 225644k buffers
Swap: 18579448k total, 0k used, 18579448k free, 721476k cached
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
22238 zimbra 20 0 7942m 2.8g 21m S 95.1 18.0 45:00.50 java
This happens intermittently, but in the middle of the day, I have to reboot the server.
Config:
$ zmlocalconfig | grep java_heap
imapd_java_heap_new_size_percent = ${mailboxd_java_heap_new_size_percent}
imapd_java_heap_size =
mailboxd_java_heap_new_size_percent = 25
mailboxd_java_heap_size = 4096
I do not know what's going on

A few other threads on this last month... Do any of these sound like what you have observed? viewtopic.php?f=15&t=63579&hilit=high+cpu&start=10
https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_Rel ... 8.6_HotFix Specifically this: [bug]108414[/bug]. Double check the logs.

Thank you,
Before I write here, I installed a patch - https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_Rel ... 8.6_HotFix
>Specifically this: Bug 108414. Double check the logs.
Checked the logs, did not see the error "mailbox - Failed to lock mailbox"
The CPU is still unevenly loaded (

I figured as much but thought I would get that out of the way just in case.sarge wrote:Thank you,

You said you have to restart. Are you doing that because your users can't login or does the system become progressively unresponsive and slow? Is it all the clients or just the MUA's like outlook, thunderbird, etc. Does the web interface continue to function? You might also focus on the cmd line stuff (ie. stats) kicked off from cron to see if they are making the problem worse. Saw this unconfirmed [bug]108319[/bug] so keep that in the back of your mind if you see a lot of look ups or have some custom stuff running. These are just questions to think about as you zero in on the failing component.
Perhaps... gather some more information to see if you can narrow this down further. I am guessing you have been through the logs and found nothing and appear to be focused on the java components of Zimbra which seems like a good place to start.
Code: Select all
pidstat -l 1
iostat -xz 5
mpstat -P ALL 1
Re: High cpu load for java process after upgrade to 8.8.6
At some point in the working day, the system(Web-interface users complain) become very slow.
CPU load for java, in this moment 100-150% constantly. But, server working.
After reload, the situation for some time is normalized.
While I was looking for a solution, I found this: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=58059&start=10
But I do not know, if this is right for me.
Now I'm thinking of increasing the number of processors, can this help?
Tomorrow I will gather more information...
Thank you.

Re: High cpu load for java process after upgrade to 8.8.6
Same problem here! Zimbra 8.8.5, java 100% CPU minimun. My server has 16 cores. Only restart zmcontrol works fine!
How did you solve it?

Re: High cpu load for java process after upgrade to 8.8.6
Did you install the 8.8.6 Hotfix?
https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_Rel ... 8.6_HotFix
Or better yet upgrade to 8.8.7?
