Configure Zimbra 8.8.8 as Relay Server

Post by Gulano »

Good day community,

I am new on this forum and also new in using Zimbra.
I setup Zimbra 8.8.8 and I can send emails.
I also made user accounts and they all can send emails.

I am one of the administrators in my company managing a couple of application servers.
I want the applications to use the zimbra server as an relay server to send notifications to users.

Is there someone who can help me with information how to prepare the server?
I search on this forum but I cannot find a link what to do first till the last action on the zimbra server to make the server ready.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

You don't really mean a 'relay', I'm guessing you just want the applications to send messages to your local ZCS users - is that correct? If that's what you're after then all you need to do is create a 'user' account for the applications then have them connect as that user via port 587, authenticate then just send the mail to the required user.

Thank you for your reply and yes that is what I want to do.

So the solutions is:
1. create an email address for example "smtp@servername.domain.com" on the Zimbra server and
2. configure this email address "smtp@servername.domain.com" in a couple of programs to send notifications to administrators

Yes, that was what I meant but make sure you use Port 587 in those applications to submit the mail to your ZCS server.

I created the account and configured it in the application server App01 but administrators are not receiving the notifications.

Here is the configuration:

The Name of the Zimbra SMTP server is : Zimbra01
The server's IP is : 192.168.191.14
email account on the Zimbra Server: smtp@zimbra01.mydomain.com

Name Application Server: App01.mydomain.com
IP is : 192.168.192.22

Outgoing Email Settings configured on App01 :
- Server Name / IP: 192.168.191.14
- Email Type : SMTP
- Preferred encoding for outgoing mail: UTF-8
- Port: 25
- Enable TLS (Transport Layer Security): yes
- Requires Authentication: yes
- User Name: smtp@zimbra01.mydomain.com

Account configured on the application Server as Sender: Gulano.myoffice@mydomain.sr

QUESTIONS:
1. Where in the GUI of the Zimbra server I can change the port 25 to port 587 ?
2. Where in the GUI of the Zimbra server I can enbale sending emails from this email account? Gulano.myoffice@mydomain.sr
3. Where in the GUI of the Zimbra server I can enbale sending emails from a specified domain or network?

Thank you in advance.

You don't, you use port 587 as the submission port in the application.
Gulano wrote:2. Where in the GUI of the Zimbra server I can enbale sending emails from this email account? Gulano.myoffice@mydomain.sr
You don't, any account can send email once it's created.
Gulano wrote:3. Where in the GUI of the Zimbra server I can enable sending emails from a specified domain or network?
You don't, any user in a domain can send mail (if they are local and on your ZCS server) - see my answer to the previous question.

Correct!
It is working.

From the logs we were able to find the error trace as "Caused by: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target"

So the server is working fine now.

Many thanks
