Accepted wisdom - 8.8.15 p5 - Install or not?

Postby liverpoolfcfan » Mon Jan 13, 2020 12:34 pm

We are running 8.8.15 p4. I am aware that p5 is out a few weeks with some security updates/fixes but, there have been a lot of posts of people having issues with it.

At this time, what is the accepted wisdom?

Should we install the patch, or wait for p6?

Thanks

There is a new patch in the repo, I bet the number 6, but someone has posted it does not resolve the chat issue at least.
Maybe you should wait for patch 7 ?

Patch 5 upgraded OpenJDK from 11 to 13, and an earlier version upgraded OpenJDK from 8 to 11.

The upgrade to OpenJDK 13 caused compatibility issues for OSE users who had installed ZeXtras (ZeXtras released an immediate update to address this), as well as some of Barry deGraaff's excellent third-party Zimlets (Barry also released updates) as I understand it.

I may be missing some things, but at the moment it seems OpenJDK 13 "breaks" the old Chat and Open Drive (NextCloud/OwnCloud), and also some "SendAs" functionality around Personas.

At this writing, Patch 6 has just hit the repositories, but the Release Notes have not yet been published. Patch 5 did not contain any Security fixes, and until we see what's in the Release Notes, w e won't know if Patch 6 contains any important Security fixes that would drive an update.

Although we are running Network Edition on our BSP Hosting farm, and none of the issues reported here on the forums would seemingly impact our customers, we did elect to skip Patch 5 to wait for Patch 6. We will be doing testing over the next two weeks and have provisionally scheduled a maintenance window to install Patch 6 at the end of this month.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Well it does not solve the Zimbra Chat problem... although a user on this forum explain how to fix it.
It seems that Zimbra Support does not read this forum.

Thank you all for the replies.

Does the Zimbra Chat have the same issues as the Zextras chat? I never installed the Zextras version but have installed the zimbra one

I do have ZeXtras but I don't use chat so I can't comment about that. You can install ZeXtras as a thirty day trial to see if there's a problem or not.
