DNS failure

Post by ehults »

I just tried to send an e-mail to postfix.org from an account on the Zimbra server. In zimbra.log is a message that says 'Staus:SoftBounce (I turned this on for debuging purposes) Postfix.org:Name or service not found'

I can not ping postfix.org or mail.postfix.org but if I do a 'dig postfix.org mx' it lists an MX & an A record for them.

Any idea what this is about?

TIA

DNS failure

Follow up

I just sent the same e-mail through my qmail box without a problem.

The DNS configuration (resolve.conf) of the Zimbra server is -

An internal server (127.0.0.1) on the same box (which is behind a firewall) resolving the FQDN of the mail server to zimbra and 2 external servers for outside world searches.

I'm inclined to move the box outside the firewall if I thought it would fix the issue.

If it works in qmail, then it's probably not a dns issue. Are dns lookups enabled in postfix (check the mta tab, or postconf disable_dns_lookups)

That was the problem. I had made the change when I installed the internal DNS and apparently didn't save the info. I left the site & haven't had access to the GUI.

Thanks for the help. :)
