Using external IMAP mail server

Hi,
This might have been discussed before, but I couldn't find it.
I was wondering if Zimbra can be configured to use external mail server - i.e. to be used as a front-end for an already functioning mail server? Is there a HOW-TO on how to do that?

Zimbra is an all in one-package, not just a webmail client. The only possible solution would be to use fetchmail to get mail from other server and place it into Zimbra. Kind of a hokey setup for a great application like Zimbra though.
