During the VDP backup, I see random freeze of zmmta and it could not be restarted. I had to reset he VM to fix the issue. Is there any way to debug what's causing the issue? How to isolate the issue between postfix, opendkim and saslauthd?

What version of ZCS? Odd that the MTA would freeze, given there is nothing in the MTA that gets backed up...

Currently the issue is that the VM reboots during the backup after snapshot is taken. Zimbra version is: Release 8.0.0_GA_5434.RHEL6_64_20120907144639 CentOS6_64 FOSS edition.

ZCS8.0.0? I would advise you to upgrade to 8.0.4 ASAP before your whole system goes down.

The problem upgrading is, it breaks our present configuration for restricting users to DL. RestrictPostfixRecipients - Zimbra :: Wiki . Is this a know issue with ZCS-8.0.0 ZA?

If you have customizations that don't survive upgrade, then you need to upgrade and then re-apply your customizations. Regardless, you need to upgrade from ZCS 8.0.0, there are significant known database corruption issues with that release that can strike without warning at any time.

Stop using VDP. Switch to Veeam. K, with that said, make sure you are not backing up your actual mail store with VDP. I'm assuming you have at least two disks setup on your VM (one for system; one for Zimbra). Mark the disk used for Zimbra as "Independent" inside vSphere. If you have to use VDP, use it only on the system.
