Performance problems 7.1.4 Virtualbox 4.1

Post by cozened »

Good day,
I'm new to the Zimbra world and I recently setup a Zimbra server in a smal company with 8 users.
The reason we wanted to use Zimbra is they have couple of big mailboxes ( around 8-10gb)
The setup we have is a physical server , 6 gb of ram, and

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+

2.6 ghz
The problem is that the server keeps filling the memory and it become unable to use it after couple of mins after reboot.
out of free -m is :

total used free shared buffers cached

Mem: 3523 3445 77 0 52 2202

-/+ buffers/cache: 1191 2332

Swap: 3814 0 3814
I turned of swap cause it was starting to use that and turned of couple of serviced in zimbra we dont use, example: logger, stats
The server went from 8.0 load to around 2 now
Why is it so slow ?
there come java processes that most of the process which is going on , other than that, the cpu seems to be in 20% and running okay,
We are using outlook and thunderbird as imap clients
each account has an external account which fetches mail from a pop server everyone 2 min
please help

I am running
Release 7.1.4_GA_2555.F11_20120105094332 F11 FOSS
In a VitrualBox 4.1.6 environment. I have only allocated 2.0G

to the environment, run a tiny swap 200K. 5 users max,

relative small mailboxes. Have used this setup since Zimbra 6 version.
Clients were originally Outlook via IMAP. Now we are using the

web interface 99% of the time.
System runs stables eventually most of the memory is allocated but

it doesn't seem to change performance. No errors.

Suggest trying to isolate the problems. What happens during start with no client access. How many inbound connections per minute etc.

People will be able to better help if you can isolate where you

think the problem is.
