Exporting Zimbra Contacts

Post by 559jwilson »

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but here goes. Most of our people here are using Outlook 2000. I know how to import contacts to zimbra from outlook but is it possible to export the global address list from zimbra to outlook.
Thanks,

Hi
Welcome to the forums. :)
Yes, the user can export the contacts from the Options/Contacts tab as a csv file. Is that what you're after?

Actually, that Option will only export your personal contacts, not GAL. I dont think there is a way to export GAL from the client right now.
If this is an important feature, please write up a bug report -- bugzilla.zimbra.com. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found a different way. You can actually create a service for LDAP in outlook and get the addresses that way.

jwilson, what settings did you use to set up the ldap query in outlook?
I also need to export my global address lists to CSV.

You should be able to do this to provide access to an LDAP directory to use as your Address Book.
* Tools;

* E-mail Accounts;

* In the Directory section select Add a new directory or address book;

* Press Next;

* Keep the default of LDAP service;

* Press Next;

* Fill in the server name box with your.ldap.server;

* Press Next;

* Press OK when it tells you'll need to restart Outlook for the settings to take effect;

* Please go ahead and restart Outlook.
If you'd like to make this LDAP server the first address book checked when composing email then do the following:
* Tools;

* Address Book;

* Tools;

* Options;

* Click on your.ldap.server in the lower window and press the up arrow button on the right side of the window.;

* Then press OK to close the window.

Welcome to the forums
Take a look at this bug report, are those the steps you tried when exporting the address book? If they are that bug is scheduled to be fixed in the next major release. It's always a good idea to look in bugzilla for any problems you encounter, you can also vote on any that affect you and you want fixed.
