Recall a Message

I would like to know if there is a way to recall a message which you have sent (prior to it having been opened by recipient). Thank you!

Hi dgrieco,


If the message was for one of the users of the same Environment, you can just delete the message in the recipient Inbox. If the message is outside, you can't do nothing.


A really good way to prevent this issue is install and activate the Zimlet called Undo Send - http://gallery.zimbra.com/type/zimlet/undo-send


This Zimlet can provide you, or any of your users a few seconds before send any email, so you can take the final look before send the email.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, however I would not be able to delete a message in the recipient's inbox since I am just a User. I am not in IT.The Zimlet, if I understand it correctly, simply delays the sending of the email. I am talking about once the email is actually sent. In Outlook there is an Action to "Recall Message" once it has been sent. It works as long as the recipient has not as yet opened the message. Thank you.

Are you and the recipient in the same Zimbra Environment? The Recall Message only works in a Exchange accounts - https://support.office.com/en-GB/Article/Recall-or-replace-an-email-message-that-you-sent-81c1ae4a-1ea3-4355-b05f-91785773ac15 And I'm not sure if works between different Exchange servers.

Zimbra doesn't have an option like this, if both users are in the same Zimbra environment, the Admin can delete the unread message in the recipient User.

URGENT!!! Undo send

Is there any way to undo a message sent nby mistake?

Send a Non-destructive entry team to break in and delete the message from the inbox.

Send a SWAT team to take out the recipients computer.

Get a load of well meaning interns to break in and steal the computer.

Bribe their secretary.

Call and apologise.
