If anybody else out there is having sync problems with your Gmail IMAP account, it might be due to a conflict with thunderbird. If you are also using thunderbird as an IMAP client for your gmail account it creates a IMAPTrash folder on the gmail server and Zimbra Desktop doesn't seem to like that very much.
