I am looking for a replacement for Thunderbird and Zimbra looks like a good candidate. I am running Zimbra Desktop 7.0 on Windows 8.1.
I have a google hosted domain. When I try to set up the account as a gmail account, I get "User account authentication failed. Please check username and password."
There is no "Username" field in the account form. I assume they mean "Email address" field. I am using the same address I use for Thunderbird has no trouble authorizing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Poor member!! Since the problem was posted 7 months ago no response at all!??? This is exactly the problem i have. So i may as well forget Zimbra because i can not wait seven months for a reply. So sad that the developers create such bad unclear instructions for installation.

Try "Allowing less secure apps to access your account" for your gmail account.
