General Information
Zimbra Mobile Plus is one of the modules of Zimbra Suite Plus.
It allows your users to synchronize their Zimbra mailbox with their mobile devices through the widespread Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol, natively supported by the vast majority of mobile devices.
Whether it is a mobile phone or a tablet, corporate or BYOD, your data will always be at your fingertips, without any middle-ware or dedicated client.
Zimbra Mobile Plus is a complete communication solution that allows you to send and receive emails, use the Global Address List, fully manage contacts in your Zimbra address book, create appointments, arrange meetings and manage task lists, even those that have been shared with you by other users.

Main Features

• No configuration needed: chose which users and/or Classes of Service can synchronize their mailboxes and you are good to go.
• Exchange Active Sync: Push synchronization of Emails, Appointments, Contacts and Tasks natively supported by iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BBOS10.
• Shared folder synchronization: Synchronize everything that has been shared with you in Zimbra to your device.
• Dedicated Logging: Zimbra Mobile Plus uses a dedicated logfile, and allows you to create specific Account Loggers to easily identify synchronization issues.
• Enhanced security: Your data is safe, thanks to features such as MDM policy enforcement and Mobile Passwords.

How is this different then the Mobile Activesync support built into the network edition?

In both circumstances Activesync is a licensed product from Microsoft, it's the same whether you're using NE or ZeXtras.

While the protocol is the same there are some differences in the implementation of the protocol, the most important of which is the ability to synchronize any share - be it an email folder, a calendar, an address book or a task list - to any compatible mobile device and client.
Other differences which are worth to mention are the "Mobile Password" feature, which allows to set a dedicated password for EAS connections for each user completely unrelated to the mailbox's password, and an advanced connection filtering system that allows to force a specific protocol version on your clients in order to greatly improve compatibility...

Is there a licencing cost reason behind doing this or just attempting to raise more cash from current customers?

I was already feeling dirty after having to pay for extra licencing so our Outlook for Mac would operate correctly...

Zimbra Mobile Plus - like all of the modules of Zimbra Suite Plus - is not tied to Network Edition and it works on NE Standard, NE Professional and OSE: it's not an "extra", but another option Zimbra users have to fulfill their needs...

Thanks for the info. It has a few nice features I would enjoy, but not enough to pay extra compared to my existing NE license.
