Upgrade Beta1 to Beta 2?

Post by L. Mark Stone »

Partners got an email today that 8.8 Beta 2 is available, but following the links in the email just gets me to a web page to download Beta1 again.

Could someone from Zimbra kindly provide the links/URL to download Beta2 please?

But, shouldn't the repos have the latest beta 2? IOW, can we not do an in-place upgrade via packaging tools (i.e. apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade on Ubuntu) to get from Beta1 to Beta2?

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,
We haven't released yet the Beta 2, most likely it will be out tomorrow.

The repos are only for the third party packages for now, so at the moment you need the Release bits which contain the major Zimbra changes.

OK thanks.

Will an in-place upgrade from BetaX to 8.8GA be supported?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure, it might work, but we recommend always to use Betas on development or test scenarios only. I do not think support will cover that scenario.

I don't think Mark's concern is to be "supported" in case his beta platform goes down.
It's beta and it's meant to be a test/beta platform only.
Mark, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The concern is to be able to test the "whole" 8.8 experience.
Update using repos is one of the 8.8 features and it would be nice to be able to test if between betas (on different OSes).

I don't think we will upgrade "beta" platform to "production".
It's interesting to know if it's possible (I'm thinking of some "I can't wait customers") but my own concern is about repo upgrade.

Universal UI is a also 8.8 feature (see previous thread), I was not able to understand if it's integrated in beta2 (as a part of the whole beta program), the mail to partners says nothing about it (there's a paragraph about the new UI but in the Cloud Beta).

That's at least two important features that need to be integrated in the beta program (or it's not a beta program, it's alpha or preview).

Klug,

the lastest up to date Universal UI is packaged now with 8.8 , it seems there is no more 8.7.X for the new UI.

It was not in beta1, see: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=62218
As of now (22:59 in Paris), beta2 is not available (while we got the mail before 18:00 Paris time).
So, as of now, Universal UI is not in 8.8 Beta.

I now I'm the PITA (again) on this.
I think we're all putting a lot of hope in 8.8 to provide customers (and users) a renewed Zimbra experience (new UI, new features such as Drive, new features for the admin such as AdminUI and repo-update), etc.
There's a lot of communication about both these new features and the beta program.
But these two (new features and beta) don't seem to join.
Yet.

Maybe I misunderstood something, but when you go to zimbra.org to download latest archive for Universal UI, it is 8.8 ZCS.
(I was unable to upload a screenshot sorry)

We are currently working on having a Build with Universal UI and all the 8.8 beta features as well, I will provide the link when it's ready.

As for 8.8 going fully repository, that's not ready yet. I can't confirm when upgrading only by repo will be ready, we are currently working on that as well.

Please give me a few days until I can bring a 8.8 NE Beta with Universal UI.
