Has Zimbra Development Stopped?

Post by scottalanmiller7 »

I've been closely following the status of the new UI with great interest. Zimbra has aged badly and the new UI is very important. It didn't show up in 8.8, and now all forums related to it have been locked without updated. There is some mild talk of "something new coming", but that was months ago and all we've actually heard is that the Zimbra updates were canceled after showcasing them and making us think that we were getting them last year. That people were asking if the product was vapourware and then the threads were just locked with no info except hints at it truly being vapourware, this seriously calls the future of Zimbra into question.

Are we now just locking any discussion about the future of the product? Nine months since this blog post: https://blog.zimbra.com/2017/06/zimbra- ... ting-open/

And in the last nine months the ONLY news is "the future has been canceled." That's it? Nothing to share? No future of the product? Just bug fixes and things are winding down? This gives the very, VERY strong impression that Synacor doesn't see a future in the product - nothing worth developings and certainly not worth talking to customers about. As customers, the message is extremely strong: Zimbra isn't actively going to be developed.

If that's not the story you want us to hear, you should think about the message being sent. No news and locking people down who ask questions. As far as I'm concerned, being asked if a product is vapourware and locking the thread instead of responding is the strongest YES that a company can give.

No, development hasn't stopped and as far as the new UI goes there was a recent announcement asking for people to participate in a beta program for the UI IIRC.

Yes, but are you actually listening? :)

So what? These are not official Zimbra Support forums, they are community support forums and you may, or may not, get an answer here. Whether you are talking about Zimbra Collaboration Server or the Zimbra Desktop the answer is the same, development is continuing on all the products and there are regular (and frequent) releases of ZCS, ZD is less frequent but development continues.

FE:

Until NOW - also the official, downloadable Zimbra Desktop does not work correctly within Java 9 and Linux. The handling of attachments is also very bad and printing is also full of errors.
This is not a question of subsriptions. Also the OFFICIAL clients do not work correctly and no solution is visible.
The error exists for months now and we have lost an interested customer to Kopano :-(

Everybody can think about this as she/he wants

But FOR ME this does not look very good.

... and the point of your post is what, exactly? Not every post here will get an answer, for various reasons, but that does not mean that development of the products has stopped. I don't really know what point you're trying to make that you haven't already said but it's getting a bit tedious, do stop it.

So much people here claimed problems with ZD 7.3.x. With Java, printing, crashing on start

Neverever any answer or help. May be that is normal here. But it is not normal in common

Very disappointing and everybody can make his thoughts and impressions for himself....

Zimbra is a very nice and interesting product.

But as an Outlook backend alone, with a zdesktop which is lacking development and bugfixing ??? Outlook as an alternative?

There are also other very good challengers like Kopano/Kerio in this field.

I think Zimbra is living from and for its own client......
If you think that this is offending ???? OK!
