Forum auth timeout and mailing list

Post by Marc Gadsdon »

Hi Zimbra,

Is there any chance you could possibly increase the authentication timeout so that we don't have to login so regularly? The remember function does not work for me. I have heard from at least 1 other person that they also have this issue and find it annoying to have to login so frequently. The 'old old' forums retained auth for many days or even weeks.

I seem to remember this discussed way back in the day, but is it possible to integrate a proper mailing list with the forums? I know many folks like web based forums, but I also know many who much prefer keeping up by email list, finding it much easier and faster to keep on top of the threads.

Cheers,

Marc

I do have the same issue with the "remember me" feature, it's a real pain.

Hi guys,
We are looking into move the forums to a single server, instead of the complex cluster we have today, and which is the one reason you are suffering for the not work of the remember feature, allows us time please.

About mailing list with phpbb it seems it's not compatible, one of our only options to support that is jump to discourse: I'm happy with the functionality and speed we have today, but if we have a huge amount of users requesting this, we can always move to discourse, you can as well subscribe to different topics so at least you receive an email once it's a new reply, or topic, etc.

I've also experienced the auth time out and find it to be a turn off working with the forums. I also would prefer the option to interact with the forum via a mailing list.

Jorge, how would we go about considering a move to discourse or another platform that offers more options?

Regards,
Adam

Hi Adam,
Mostly by asking it to Erynn, so she can ping an internal IT resource to plan and execute the migration.

Discourse sounds and looks great.
