Here is some information about Zimbra's New Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from Rene Otto, VP of Email Products ...
Zimbra is committed to delivering top performing products, and integral to that is our new Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), which will help us create quality products delivered in a customer-friendly, predictable way. There are two streams in the SDLC: the Standard Release Model and the Longterm Release Model.
The Standard Release Model
This stream of the Zimbra SDLC ensures that our customers and partners have the fastest possible access to new Zimbra product features and enhancements. Beginning with Zimbra Network Edition 8.8, we will release a new product version every quarter. The last two standard releases will be supported and receive regular, bi-weekly patches.
The Longterm Release Model
This stream offers a prolonged period of support and maintenance for Zimbra Network Edition. Starting with Zimbra 8.7.11, the latest minor Zimbra release is supported with bi-weekly patches. All patches are cumulative. When Zimbra 8.7.11 reaches end-of-life status (end of general support), the most current Zimbra Standard Release at that time then becomes our next Longterm Release.
Practically Speaking …
How does the new Zimbra SDLC apply to the next 6 months of Zimbra Network Edition releases? We will have a standard release each quarter, and each release will be named after a distinguished scientist. The next standard release is Zuse, named after Konrad Zuse, an inventor whose greatest achievement was the world’s first programmable computer. Simultaneously, we will release bi-weekly patches for standard releases and the longterm support release.
We always value your feedback. Please share your thoughts (and favorite trailblazing scientists) with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
