[SOLVED] 6.0 GA today?

Post by quietas »

I'll agree with you there. It's already been pushed back once this week as it had a 8/31 date before this.

[SOLVED] 6.0 GA today?

I'm excited for some of the 6.0.0 features, but looking at 6.0.1 and 0.2 I see a lot of other helpful enhancements that I think will make many users happy. fingers crossed!

[SOLVED] 6.0 GA today?

Post by d2globalinc »

We are excited around here as well! We made the mistake of installing a test server with the latest release candidate last week and now I keep using our current system and wishing the new features were available ;) Also it seems like I keep getting asked by our clients if a feature or options is available, and I keep having to tell them that its in the next version after looking up the bug report and seeing it "Fixed" but then seeing Zimbra 6 :P
I'd also like to take the time right now to thank all the developers and testers who helped bring this version out. I appreciate the fact that they didn't go and completely redesign the interface, but yet added features that compliment the original design and fix the little quirks. I'm glad I wont have to listen to the complaints that I remember hearing when we had clients move from office 2003 to office 2007.
Thanks!

p.s. Personally the top two features I'm looking forward to would probably be the fisheye view in the web interface and automatic spell checking before sending messages ( I don't have time to pay attention to my spelling, I'm too busy typing :D )

[SOLVED] 6.0 GA today?

Post by mmorse »

We're gonna try for just 64-bit versions of new releases. This lines up with the trend for increasing desire for systems with 4GB+ of RAM, and is also somewhat reflected in our download numbers. (Yes, 64-bit addressing takes up only a little more space & were not counting 32-bit PAE.)
Of course the key is not forcing too much work upon admins to change platforms or architectures to get a new version of ZCS at present, but still balancing benefits on our side of the house for phase-out down the line. Each platform we support requires hours of build & regression testing time, which of course equals money and effort better spent on other things. (Maybe someone in the community will produce a SLES 11 32-bit, should be an easy def file.)
Ended with ZCS 6.0:

OpenSUSE 10.2 32-bit
Predict ends when ZCS 6.5 released:

Debian 4 32-bit

Fedora 7 32-bit

SLES 10 32-bit

RHEL 4 32-bit

Ubuntu 6 32-bit

Mac 10.4 32-bit
Predict ends when ZCS 7.0 released:

Debian 5 32-bit

Fedora 11 32-bit

SLES 10 64-bit

RHEL 4 64-bit

RHEL 5 32-bit

Ubuntu 6 64-bit

Ubuntu 8 32-bit
Supported Into the future:

RHEL 5 64-bit

RHEL 6 64-bit

Ubuntu 8 64-bit

Ubuntu 10 64-bit

SLES 11 64-bit

SLES 12 64-bit

Mac 10.5 32-bit

Mac 10.6 32/64-bit

The Unknown New OS 64-bit
As you can see in the below path SLES actually has more choices, but forces architecture change if going SLES 11. (ie: Optional SLES 11 64-bit till 7.0)
SLES 10 32-bit @ 5.0 > SLES 10 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (no change, ends 6.5)

SLES 10 64-bit @ 5.0 > SLES 10 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (no change)

SLES 10 32-bit @ 5.0 > SLES 10 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (architecture change)

SLES 10 32-bit @ 5.0 > SLES 11 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (platform & architecture change)

------------------------ > SLES 11 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install)

------------------------ > SLES 10 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install, recommend 64-bit)

------------------------ > SLES 10 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install, not recommended, ends 6.5)
(I'd of course personally love a SLES 10 32-bit @ ZCS 5.x or 6.x so that you could do the install.sh -s platform changes easier.)
Had we stuck to our 'just 64-bit for new releases' rule without 32-bit for Debian & Fedora, one would have to do both a platform and architecture change just to try ZCS 6.

And unlike SLES 10, there isn't a "no change" choice that continues into ZCS 6.5 since were removing F7 & D4 (ie: Forced F11 & D5 with ZCS 6.5)
Fedora 7 32-bit @ 5.0 > Fedora 7 32-bit @ 6.0 (no change, ends 6.5)

Fedora 7 32-bit @ 5.0 > Fedora 11 32-bit @ 6.0 (platform change)

Fedora 7 32-bit @ 5.0 > Fedora 11 64-bit @ 6.0 (platform & architecture change)

------------------------ > Fedora 11 64-bit @ 6.0 (new install)

------------------------ > Fedora 11 32-bit @ 6.0 (new install, recommend 64-bit)

------------------------ > Fedora 7 32-bit @ 6.0 (new install, not recommended, ends 6.5)
Debian 4 32-bit @ 5.0 > Debian 4 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (no change, ends 6.5)

Debian 4 32-bit @ 5.0 > Debian 5 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (platform change)

Debian 4 32-bit @ 5.0 > Debian 5 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (platform & architecture change)

------------------------ > Debian 5 64-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install)

------------------------ > Debian 5 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install, recommend 64-bit)

------------------------ > Debian 4 32-bit @ ZCS 6.0 (new install, not recommended, ends 6.5)

Yeah didn't think so.

I'm going to be testing v6 on Ubuntu Server (JeOS) 8.04 LTS in a VM in the next few weeks but from the comments on that bug it seems to be easy to reproduce. Cheers, B
