Almost all of the commands beginning with “zm…” are run as the zimbra Linux user. zmprov is one of them.

Zimbra Backup is a Network Edition only feature. It sounds like you installed the zmbackup file on an Open Source version of Zimbra? (You didn't post the output of zmcontrol -v, but said you "installed" zmbackup...) So, that won't work (if that's what you've done) and also needless to say ...
