You may want to check your reply settings in Preferences/Mail. Under "Composing Messages" you can set how much of the original message (the one you're replying to) is included in your message. Set it to "Include original message" to include the entire original message.

You can't filter on contact groups. The best you can do is filter on each address in the group.

Have you tried viewing it in the online web client? That will tell us if the issue is specific to Desktop, or perhaps to the older version that it's based on. The message looks normal.
