Re: zmmailboxdctl failing to run after most recent apt-get

We are almost there, we now have an error on zmcontrol start showing all up until: Starting mta...Failed. Starting saslauthd...done. postalias: fatal: open database /etc/aliases.lmdb: Permission denied postsuper: fatal: scan_dir_push: open directory defer: Permission denied postfix failed to start T...

Re: zmmailboxdctl failing to run after most recent apt-get

We have been fighting this for 30 odd hours now and not getting anywhere. What is worrying that in the forums even a new Zextras installer fresh copy fails to start? Is that true? If the installer itself is wrong that is not reassuring. We have a clients NE version which worked fine on the latest pa...

Re: 8.0.9 to 8.7.11 or 8.8.15 Advice and comment.

Thanks both of you, very useful points I may have otherwise missed in forum searches. I think we may just aim for 8.8.12 and be very tight about the upgrade path on a test server with copies of real data first to check it all hangs together. There is a fairly good choice of Zimbra versions and OS su...

Re: 8.0.9 to 8.7.11 or 8.8.15 Advice and comment.

Thanks for replying. It seems that you need to run the migration tool and then use that with their backup software which requires a subscription on a per seat basis (with a limited free trial option) or have I misread that? My concern would be if we then get issues pre or post the migration I presum...

8.0.9 to 8.7.11 or 8.8.15 Advice and comment.

We have inherited some old servers with U10.04 and Z8.0.9 servers and want to migrate via U14.04 Z8.0.9 to U16.04 and Z8.7.11 or higher. So a few answers or comments to the following questions would be great: 1) Should we step through each Zimbra upgrade one version at a time and switch OS as late a...

Zimbra Desktop down't work after upgrade Ubunto to 12.04

I get the same error whether on Ubuntu, Debian and derivatives. I think ZD is effectively dead in the water now, seems to be no more development/bug fixes likely before EOL. The approach being suggested for the replacement technology and limited recent offline sync is not really very helpful for my ...

ldap database went from 97meg to 86gig

Thanks Quanah, this has been very helpful and should resolve all the issues I have experienced and that of other small companies and organizations I work with. Great to feel we are being listened to in FOSS land and can usefully contribute to Zimbra. Thanks too for the script Kevin (winepress). I no...

ldap database went from 97meg to 86gig

I wonder if this is just a sparse file? normally a util like cp will detect that and work with it but this one seems a little different since cp sees it as a normal 80GB file.

ldap database went from 97meg to 86gig

I think if you use virtual instances of Zimbra then taking a snapshot of the server before updating anything is a nice simple way of doing it. Working on server metal directly these things are not so simple. Generally the process was to rsync the /opt/zimbra directory once, then stop Zimbra services...

ldap database went from 97meg to 86gig

yep, just want to get a good solution to this issue that works sensibly and to understand more about the reasons behind the changes that expose it. For the last 6-7 years the rsync approach was de-facto and suddenly it is very significantly changed and in a way that seems to work against good storag...
