I want to install as a test on another server than our mail server, I'd like zimbra to be able to check mail off our imap or pop on our main server, as well as be able to send out with the correct domain etc.
Is this doable? I think I did this a few years ago, and want to try it again

Possible t have 2 webmail systems?
Why would you want two mail servers running when Zimbra will handle internal and external mail? Yes, you can use Squirrelmail, AFAIK, it's only another mail client that you point towards a mail server. Unless I don't understand (which is not unusual :) ) I think ...

Possible t have 2 webmail systems?
Would it be possible to have 2 systems, on running for internal use that's a Zimbra server, and another that's external that's using some other webmail client (squirrelmail probably)? Users in AD and OpenLDAP
You use AD to authenticate against, but all zimbra-specific account attributes stay in our openldap db - so we're not writing to your AD installation.
Does it use the AD password? Do I need to set one in the LDAP DB?

Users in AD and OpenLDAP
It is necessary to create the users in ldap, but you don't have to use the web UI. You can create users from the command line with zmprov: zmprov ca etc... So, if you can dump your userlist to a file, one user per line, you can feed that file to zmprov. If you want to...

NIS Authentication?
It's not supported, but there's no reason that you can't hack the authentication java classes to use NIS (or even local password, which would probably be the same task.)
I could. If I knew WTF I was doing.
I will keep dicking about

Users in AD and OpenLDAP
I saw that users need to be in both AD and LDAP, if I have 300 users in AD, I am not wanting to create 300 user accounts. Is there another way to do this?
Is that correct that user accounts need to be in both the AD and the OpenLDAP?
