This is what I do which minimizes downtime and it won't matter how long it takes to copy the backup to another computer: - rsync the zimbra directory while it is running to another location on the same server - stop zimbra - rsync --delete the zimbra directory to the same location used in the first ...

Not a good idea. Symlinks and permissions would be messed up. If you tar'd up the directory and copied to XP, you would be fine.

What version of Zimbra are you running? 64 bit? I run almost the same setup on a dual quad core xeon with 6 gigs of ram. It never slows down. From your loads, I'm guessing the system is fine for what you are using it for. It sounds like your backup system is causing the problems. Do you stop Zimbra ...
