Content pulled from other sources via the social plugin cannot be controlled by zimbra. If thats a problem for your workplace then disable the social zimlet in the admin console, or filter all content at your firewall.

Can you check POP access without Zimbra in the mix by trying to telnet into the POP3 server fromt the machine that zimbra is installed on by trying this at the console:

telnet pop3.server.tld 110
and make sure that you can actually connect.
