By any chance are you using the "Email Template" zimlet? I had a VERY similar problem in a mixed Zimbra 7/Zimbra8 system.

While I can't speak for Zimbra, nor for what's best for Zimbra 8.5, for what it's worth, I've both applied the HWE update to Zimbra 8.0.7p2 (which effectively updates the kernel version to that of 12.04.5LTS), and installed a new 8.0.7p2 server on the 12.04.5LTS distribution.
