Just an update to this. I get the same timeout error when I try to import the file through the web interface.

I haven't looked at it yet but you might want to see if setting zimbraCalendarCalDavClearTextPasswordEnabled to false does it.
$ zmprov gcf zimbraCalendarCalDavClearTextPasswordEnabled

Correct. After I saw it on our production server I tried the same thing on a test server which was a fresh install of 6.0.
