You should be able to hook the BES to the remote mailbox server from how I understand it. I think the issue will revolve around getting an account that has high enough permissions. I too am experiencing this issue on a brand new Leopard system using the 5.0.7 iSync connector, Enourage 2008 (12.4.1), but we are not connected to an Exchange server. Everything seems to sync to iCal fine, but we cannot enable the iCal integration.
