Hi,
I am running zcs-8.7.11_GA_1854
Since for the installation (upgrade) i needed proxy and memchached to be installed, is it possible to deactivate it again after the installation like this?
Or is it totally needed? Since I am experiencing some strange behavior on Zimbra by services stop running after some time, I assume it might have to do with proxy or memchached since I did not have those problems before.
So could you guys let me know if the following commands will have any impact on my installation?
zmmemcachedctl stop
zmprov ms zmhostname -zimbraServiceEnabled memcached
zmcontrol stop
zmcontrol start
The same goes for imapproxy.
zmprov ms zmhostname -zimbraServiceEnabled imapproxy
Can proxy & memcached be deactivated on single machine installation?

Proxy is required and I've never it seen it be the cause of other Zimbra components failing. As my former statistics professor was fond of saying "Never confuse correlation with causation..."
When a fail happens, please collect relevant snippets of log files and we can help you get to the true root cause.
All the best,
Mark

Re: Can proxy & memcached be deactivated on single machine installation?
Thanks for your feedback
I have checked my proxy settings, does this look correct?
zimbraMailMode: https
zimbraMailPort: 80
zimbraMailProxyPort: 8080
zimbraMailReferMode: wronghost
zimbraMailSSLPort: 443
zimbraMailSSLProxyPort: 8443
zimbraReverseProxyHttpEnabled: FALSE
zimbraReverseProxyLookupTarget: TRUE
I think the zimbraMailReferMode looks somehow off?

It's almost all backwards I'm afraid...AR84 wrote:Thanks for your feedback

zimbraMailwhatever refers to the mailbox service; zimbraMailProxywhatever refers to what the proxy is doing.
IOW: Internet <---Link A---> Proxy <---Link B---> Mailboxd
So, should be for a single-server with proxy:
zimbraMailMode: https (this describes how mailboxd and proxy talk to each other on Link B)
zimbraReverseProxyMailMode: redirect (this describes how the proxy will handle end-user requests that come in on http on Link A)
zimbraMailPort: 8080 (Link B)
zimbraMailProxyPort: 80 (Link A)
zimbraMailReferMode: reverse-proxied (what mailbox should do with queries for mailboxes not on this mailbox server, i.e. punt back to the proxy)
zimbraMailSSLPort: 8443 (Link B)
zimbraMailSSLProxyPort: 443 (Link A)
zimbraReverseProxyHttpEnabled: TRUE (This plus zimbraReverseProxyMailMode puts users who come in on http to https automagically)
zimbraReverseProxyLookupTarget: TRUE (Yes, this mailbox server is a lookup target for the proxy service)
Also check that:
Code: Select all
zimbra@webmail:~$ zmlocalconfig zimbra_require_interprocess_security
zimbra_require_interprocess_security = 1
zimbra@webmail:~$
