Email Activity During Maintinence

Post by stringers »

Hi all,

This will probably sound like a stupid question, but what happens to emails when you perform Zimbra upgrades. Assuming you have a single server setup and no failover option.

Will the incoming messages hit the server with a timeout? If so, how long to Zimbra upgrades generally take, longer than such a timeout?

Any enlightenment would be appreciated, cheers.

If a mail server (any mail server) can't deliver an email for whatever reason it will try again up-to a specified number of times (defined by teh sending server) , if it can't deliver it then it will return the mail to the sender with an 'undelivered' message. If you want a more detailed or technical explanation then an internet search will get you more than you need.
Regards

Bill

Okay thanks for that, I think that's a pretty sufficient explanation for my purposes. Thanks!
