Searching Shared Contacts

I have a Department Head that shares his Address book, which contains upwards of 800 contacts, with his Admin Assistant, who is responsible for maintaining these contacts. However, she is unable to search for entries in his Shared Contacts. She has been given admin permissions to edit his address book. Is there a way to search shared address books that I may be overlooking?
