Server Statistics graph with high MTA message count

Post by daniel.lee.aos »

Hello, we are using ZCS Network 7.1.2GA with 45 users and we have noticed high peaks in the mta_count graphs. The peaks occurs always at 7pm at night (people leave at 5PM, most users shutdown their desktops). A friend of mine using ZCS Open 6.0.8GA has a similar issue, he has 125 accounts and the mta_count goes as high as 14k at 12AM, 4AM when no one is in the office.
Is the MTA_COUNT graph accurate to measure sent/received messages or does it register all mta transactions?
Thanks.

I tested using clearos on top of zimbra. The SMTP log of clearos shows total 4,4300 emails received over the weekend, but zimbra still shows the 10k+ email peaks on the same times. The issue remains. Any word on this Zimbra Team?
Thanks.

Good day!
We are experiencing the same issue on our Zimbra e-mail server: Release 7.1.3_GA_3346.UBUNTU10_64 UBUNTU10_64 FOSS edition. Please see attached screenshot.
I already checked the logs such as /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log and /var/log/zimbra.log but I did not find anything unusual or questionable with respect to MTA relay. I also tested our Zimbra server for Open Relay and it passed all the test.
If there are anyone here from the VMware Zimbra team, please help us on this issue. If this is a bug, please let us know for any fix.

Same problem here with version 7.1.3...

I have calculated around 100 mails in period of 1 hour, but on graph statistics for the same time it shows 1M mails.

Same here. Regularly getting mta_count spikes of 100k to 300k (last night was 329k!). Logs do not show any unusual activity. Also, at the time of the spike, my Barracuda shows only 2 legit inbound messages in that time period. I've been chasing this for months. Glad I found this thread, so I can add my "MEE TOO!"
BTW, version is Release 7.1.2_GA_3268.UBUNTU10_64 UBUNTU10_64 NETWORK edition.
