POP3 read flag after downloaded

Post by thiagolinhares »

Hello there,

I've come across a problem, that I'm not sure how it works.

CASE SCENARIO:
An email account hosted at Hostgator (as matter of exemple) is configured on client side to retrieve emails using POP3 protocol and setup to keep messages on server side.
As soon as it's emails get downloaded, its message is marked or flagged as read. If you login to webmail it will appear as read.
The same behavior occurs independent on which client is being using to download those POP3 messages.

While on Zimbra Server, this behavior just won't happen. The client downloads messages using POP3, and the message is still marked as UNREAD.

I know Hostgator server are not Zimbra etc...but
My question: Is there a way to adjust it so Zimbra could mark POP3 downloaded messages as read?

Thanks in advance.

I came across the same issue that you are facing Thiago. For some reason POP3 email account does not mark the messages read on server when you mark them read on the client. There should be a solution for this. Did you find anything on this?

I actually went ahead and filed a bug for this. You can follow: https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=107938 to see if it will ever get resolved.

An old thread but still a hot topic for us! Sarkis thread on Bugzilla is still unanswered (and I get an error, trying to comment on Bugzilla), but the problem persists:

This would not only be a feature but also a necessary standard! We are used to
host our own Postfix/Courier/Dovecot-Servers for over 20 years and made the
migration to Zimbra a couple weeks ago to get a bit MORE functionality for our
Team. This missing standard behavior is definitive the opposite direction for us
and nothing we would have even imagined to be possible. Please, get this option
included...there ARE still people out there using POP3 and expect to see their
downloaded mails marked as read in their Webmailer or IMAP-Client.

Obviously because your comment appears 5 times in the Bugzilla.
The thing that's important to note is :
- Nobody at Zimbra is interested in the Bugzilla.
- Nobody at Zimbra is interested in anything that is raised on the forums.
- Nobody at Zimbra is interested unless you are a paying customer, raise a case in the Zimbra Support Portal and it really impacts their "cloud" service.

If you are a NE customer, reach out to your contact and rattle a cage. Otherwise I'm afraid you're pretty much SOL.

You could reach out to ZeXtras to see if they can fix it in their build of the s/zimbra/carbonio/g source.
