send mail via group

Post by johngoutbeck »

We have Zimbra 8.6 and the users are on ZCO 8.7. We have a shared position for up to 3 users, so a DL was made and an incoming mail to the DL would end up into all 3 users mailbox. This works great.

But now we would like the users to send out with the DL as the from address so internal and external users would reply to the DL and end up in all the DL users mailbox.

I have look in a lot of places but I cannot see how to set this up. Can this be done? If so how? If not, then a definitive no would be helpful.

You're probably looking for the Persona feature, take a look at the ZCS and/or ZCO product documentation for details.

But personas will not allow to send from a group/DL email address. I can add a persona but it still send mail out with the users email address.

Any more suggestions?

Yes,

This is handled by ACLs

From your distribution list:

Add an ACL

Grantee Type: usr
Grantee Name: youremployeeaddress@yourdomain.com
Right Type: System Defined Right
Right Name: sendAsDistList
Is Positive Right (Allow) selected

Once the ACL has been set, from within Outlook, click on the Zimbra tab and add a persona. You'll now have a drop down menu with the available address

Well almost

I can make a new persona
DL@domain.tld = username@domain.tld

I can send a new email from within Outlook
From = DL@domain.tld

But the sent item shows it is sending from username@domain.tld
and the recipient shows it came from username@domain.tld

---
I need Outlook to send an email from DL@domain.tld and the recipient to shoe it came from DL@domain.tld.

Can this be done? Is it possible? Is there a step I'm missing?

Thanks

Update

Still cannot sent an email from Outlook as DL@domain.tld

If I use from: other email and choose the DL from the address book, and the 'Send Using' username@domain.tld, the email cannot be sent. I get a reply back stating 'Note: You are not allowed to send on behalf of this person. Please recreate and resend the message.'

If I use from: other email and choose the DL from the address book, and the 'Send Using' DL@domain.tld (as defind from persona I think), the email cannot be sent. I get a reply back stating 'Note: You are not allowed to send on behalf of this person. Please recreate and resend the message.' or 'unknown error 0x800c8100'

I can sign into the Zimbra Web client using the Ajax client, then I can send an email from DL@domain.tld, the recipient receives it as from DL@domain.tld and ca reply to DL@domain.tld and the reply will end in all the members of the DL. Great, but need it to work from Outlook 2010.

Any other suggestions?

I've just installed Outlook 2010
I've installed the latest ZCO: ZimbraConnectorOLK_8.7.10.1711_x86
Mailserver is running Zimbra 8.7.4 Network Edition
I created a test account
I updated an existing DL with the ACL described above
I made sure to resync the Outlook client to see the new permissions
I created the new persona in Outlook
I did a new email and selected who I wanted to send as
I sent a test message to my home address as the persona and everything worked as expected

Thank you for your help

Could not get this to work with the 8.7.4 code.

Last month I upgraded the server to 8.8.8 code. ZCO was updated to 8.8.8 also.
Added the ACLs
created the Outlook persona - from and reply to = the DL email
now can send out from Outlook with the DL, and the receiver can do a reply to the DL

Excellent. It all works now. :D

Have a good day.
