OutOfOffice OOO for external mails not working (anymore)

Hello,

for some reason the OOO is not working anymore for external mails (it did once and was disfunctional after an upgrade, not sure which one it was).
Checking the mailbox.log shows that no outofoffice reply for external mails was sent, only in reply for for internal users.
We are fetching external mail via pop3 and sending via external relay server.

Checking the settings, everything shows ok:

Has this been solved? I have the same issue. Internal email works, get an auto response right away. External email (gmail, other domains, etc.) nothing. Nothing in the log other than once:

Accounts are not aliases (user@domain.ca not user@mailserv.domain.ca). They are pop accounts, retrieving mail from our domain host/ISP.
