local and external servers

Post by akanarya »

Hi,
I have been using kozali sme server for a long time for my company and I want to switch to zimbra now.
I installed latest 8.8.9 on ubuntu in virtualbox to give it a try. So I am brand new for zimbra.
My server is on my lan and we have been also servicing by a global server.
We have arround 100 users in lan and 30 users on remote server.
These 30 users are also defined on lan server.
I could do fetching emails from these common users accounts from remote without problem.
But I can not send email from these acounts in lan to any global address.
These emails are always in queue.
I tried to fix using relay MTA settings in server and global areas at webadmin but I couldnt handle to solve it.
There can be a problem about authenticaion to remote host, but there is no entry fields for username and password of remote server.
I also tried to give same domain name with remote server to my test server and used same username and passoword for local account.
But it didnt help.
What's wrong with this configuration?
Thanks a lot..

I have applied the procedure below succesfully;

https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Outgoing_S ... entication

now I can see

"235 Authentication succeeded"

message in zimbra.log

However, after a while I get

"timed out while sending end of data -- message may be sent more than once"

And my email couldnt deliver to the receipent. And it is marked as deferred in queue.

My smtp server name,port,cerditentals are working if I directly put them in thunderbird.

Any comments are appreciated.

If you're running two mail servers on the same LAN then you'll need a Split Domain setup, full details in the wiki article on the subject.

Why are you not sending mail directly to other internet servers?

I guess if this is your hosting provider then this is the reason: https://ericasadun.com/2018/05/15/the-f ... layer-com/

ok, this may be possible.
However if I send the same email from thunderbird on my pc directly, through the same provider but bypassing my lan zimbra server,
my email is deliverd to the receipent succescully.
How can it be explained?

at thunderbird smtp settings;
secure authentication : normal password
connection security : STARTTLS

I am not sure that I could implement them on zimbra correctly.

Thanks

OMG, reducing MTU size solved my problem too as concluded in;
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20316&p=284864#p284864

is there anyone who can figure it out why?
hint: my server trace is not so good.

I just tried to give a number 1000, was 1500 as a default.
Is there a relation? how can I tune this number?

You can read all about it on the internet (if you searched): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unit
