Parsing an email

Post by britesc »

Hi,
I receive an email from pfSense every time the internet service drops or starts again.
I have a dreadful ISP / Service not helped as it is a WiMax service affected by everything.

The email tells me the date and time the service comes back up or goes offline via a line in the email, with the up or down status and other bits of info.
The email also contains a line saying how many data lines the message contains.

I would like to automatically parse this email and save the details in a .csv file.
I also need to be able to initially run the script over 4 months worth of saved emails.

Is it possible to do such a thing?
If so where should I look for a guide or howto, to help me get stated.
I would prefer the script to be in bash, php etc.

Thanks and kind regards for any advice etc.
