New installs of Zimbra 8 using 100% CPU.

Post by dlthomas »

I just installed 3 VM's with fresh installs of CentOS6/Zimbra8 in preparations of migrating old servers to them. They do not have any users or domains configured to them yet, so they should be doing essentially nothing. When I came in this morning all 3 of them had all of their CPU's (4 each) pegged at 100%.
Any ideas why this would happen? Could I have screwed something up during the install?
Thanks for your input.

Without logs or even a top process listing, nobody is going to be able to help.

Also, migrate to 8.0.1, not 8.0.0.

I've seen the same issue on my test server, and after trying everything I could think to do to zimbra, a restart of the server itself cleared it out.

I've decided to go to 7.2. The important thing right now is to get off of the physical server. Migrating to anything better than Zimbra 6 so a plus.

I'm seeing the same thing. I'm running 8.0.1 in an Amazon instance, and just doubled my CPU capacity, and it ran for about 10 hours with no problem, and is now pegging 140+%

Can anyone point me to the relevant logs that might reveal the issue here? I'm not seeing anything of interest in /var/log/zimbra.log

zmcontrol restart always seems to set things right, but I can't be taking my server down for 10 minutes every time it's starts acting like this! I have run zimbra 5 and zimbra 6 servers for over a year without a problem on a much smaller CPU, and have never had these issues.

One more thing I have noticed: After this occurs, and I do a "zmcontrol restart", I get permissions errors in my /var/log/messages as follows:

Have you tried restarting the server itself? I mean the OS, not zimbra, that seemed to have solved the CPU issue for me.
