Breaking down the First Zimbra COMMIT in NYC
Thank you everyone who attended our first Zimbra COMMIT conference in NYC Mar 21-23, 2017! For those who have asked for a breakdown of what happened here, here is the place to discuss it! I know that several members of the conference have said they're preparing blogs and other summaries, and they will be shared here once available.
A few things that came out:
* Maintenance releases will continue, approximately every 2 weeks.
* 8.7.6 due out next Thursday (3/30/17)
* Includes Early Release versions of Zimbra Chat and Zimbra Drive
* 8.8.0 due out 3 weeks from now (4/13/17)
* Includes Stable versions of the new Zimbra Chat and Zimbra Drive
Small changes to how releases will be worded. New "Early Release" will now come before Stable. This is for features that have been fully QA'd but need real-world burn-in before being considered Stable. New "Stable" will replace the former "GA" nomenclature. Additionally, potential future releases may make use of "Alpha" or "Beta" for functionality being introduced but that has not yet been fully QA'd for production use.
Much more information will be made available from attendee's of the conference, but I wanted to get the discussion started in the meantime! Thank you all Partners, Employees, Customers, and Zeta Alliance attendees for coming out!

Re: Breaking down the First Zimbra COMMIT in NYC
Great event!
Big thanks to the Zimbra team for their tremendous efforts. Special thanks to Himesh and the Synacor side for their deep commitment to Open Source.
This forums post has links from @mmedellin to slide decks presented at COMMIT NYC 2017: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=61452#p275133
Particularly excited about the Contributor Agreement opportunity with Zimbra and mailbox owners will really enjoy the new Universal UI in 8.8.
Looking forward to the next COMMIT.

Agreed John, a fantastic event. Great to meet you and all of the other partners last week. Also wonderful to meet so many of the superb Zimbra employees from across the globe and put faces to names after 10+ years.John from XMission wrote:Great event!.
I would also like to thank the Synacor team for such a warm welcome, letting us overrun the Synacor NYC offices for the day on Thursday and for their strong commitment to Zimbra and Open Source. It's obvious that a huge amount of work has been ongoing behind the scenes by the entire team - I think there's been more than a few late nights this last quarter!
Zimbra has always been a little special - Zimbra Commit NYC 2017, the great Zimbra team and Synacor's deep commitment cements that status in my mind.
It's really exciting to be a part of this community!
Re: Breaking down the First Zimbra COMMIT in NYC
The event far exceeded my expectations - from the information that was shared during the presentation to the evening socials. It truly felt like an "open source" conference.
The Thursday Zeta Alliance conference call agenda is available now at https://goo.gl/iNPCzO . I've been adding information from the event there and will continue to update it until our conference call.
We'll be seeing a lot of changes in the next four weeks. Now is the time to get active again in the community if you have not been. There probably has never been a great moment in the last decade for your voice to be heard and make it count.
Everyone is welcome to call in on Thursday to learn more about what was discussed at the COMMIT and to hear feedback from those that attended.

Great news chat is finally back!!
Re: Breaking down the First Zimbra COMMIT in NYC
Hey guys- we are kicking off the v-teams (virtual teams) around the Zimbra open source community. The v-teams we are going to be kicking off are:
* Community
* Documentation
* Developer Onboarding
* UI Feedback
* Third Party Integrations
* Beta Testing Groups
The way we're looking to run this first set of v-teams is to set them up as small, active, problem focused teams (max of 6-8 people each) and run them through the end of June, and then re-group and tweak the format. We're looking for volunteers, so go ahead and respond on this thread and we'll reach out to people and set up the first v-team meetings.
Looking forward to stage 1 of the community engagement!
