Sync Calendar with Thunderbird

Postby dmaddock » Wed May 30, 2012 6:28 pm

Here is a quick cheat sheet I wrote for our users, it should give you a fair idea of how to setup Thunderbird.

It does not explain all the possible features and combinations.

You will notice that you set up two Calendars, One for Calendar and one for Tasks, this is due to the way Zimbra stores entries for these features.
Hope this helps

Setup

To operate with the a Zimbra Calendar Server you will need to add two add-ons, and configure 3 services.
Required add-ons

Lightning – for calendaring and tasks

Zindus – for GAL and contact sync
Services to add

Zimbra Personal Calendar – Using Lightning

Zimbra Tasks Calendar – Using Lightning

Zimbra Global Address List and contacts – Using Zindus

To add lightning

Open Thunderbird

Select the menu Tools>Add-ons

Select Get Add-ons

In the Search box, type “Lightning”

Select Install for Lightning 1.4 (or later)

Restart Thunderbird
To add the Zimbra Calendar
Select the menu Events and Tasks>Calendar

Select the menu File>New>Calendar

Note">http://zimbraserver.domain/dav/email@domain/Calendar

Give a name to your calendar. One that makes sense to you, eg Office, Zimbra, Work etc

Chose a color for the calendar entries

Ensure the “Show Reminders” is checked

Select your normal email address in the “E-Mail” box

Select Next

Select Finish

When/If requested to authenticate, use your email address and password
